Let there be...The Review of The Sims 3

September 19th 2009 19:43
Okay...here is the deal, I am REALLY sorry for the dealy in this, but it couldn't be helped, with moving and RL and the time drain of this game I have not been doing my blogging duties...well finally, the time has come, the Wolves are prepped and it's time for

The Wolf Den's Review of...

The Sims 3 Box Art
Box Art for The Sims 3

The Sims 3 is accually a Prequel to The Sims 2 (So the time line for "The Sims" would be The Sims 3, The Sims, The Sims 2) without any of the bonuses for registring you find yourself in Sunset Valley, a lovely littlle town that is the precursor to Plesantview. All the familes you know and love are here, in one form or another, and of course, some new familes have made their debuts.

Of course not everything is new, several things came back from The Sims 2...almost every pack from The Sims 2 had something from it put in to The Sims 3.

University: The "Young Adult" Life stage
Nightlife: Driveable Cars
Open for Business: Sims can buy and run in town businesses (though they can't make their own)
Seasons: Gardening
Apartment Life: Adjustable starting $/Liftetime Achivement Powers

Still lots of stuff is new, Gone is the 25 points in to 5 areas to determine how your Sim's mind works...in it's place you get up to 5 slots depending on the age of your Sim (Toddlers get 2, Children 3, Teenagers 4, Young Adults and Older 5) you fill these with trairs for your Sim, sound easy...there are at least 35 traits to choose from. While not entirely new you can alos now pick yoru Sim's Liftime Wish plus with the new Create a Style System you can have your Sim (and their clothes and their stuff) looking however you want. All that and we haven't even left CAS yet.

EA's biggest selling point is one of the best features....once the town loads there are no more loading screens, you want your Sims to go to the park, go to City View, chose the park and watch your Sim get in a taxi (or a car if they have one) and off to the park they go, you'll see them take each and every turn and enter the park, or to the bookstore...or to work (Yes, each career has a building in town, if you want a certain career, just go to the building and apply for it.) The city truly is alive, with the right options turned on Sims will move in to town, get jobs, get married, age, and, sadly, die, only for either their kids to carry on the family name, or a new family to move in, the world or The Sims has truly come to life inside the computer.

Sadly, not all of the changes are good, Maxi knocked off $4,000 for starting Sims meaning a 1 Sim family starting out now get $16,000 which still isn't too bad I guess.

Plus the "Edit Town" tool has some issues...do not get me wrong, it's a great tool, with it you can change, rearrange, or even delete lots. Which brings in a few of it's issues 1) any building you'd want to modify has such a ridgid construction that modifying it will only add problems 2) removing certain lots can seriously affect gameplay (for example Remove the Theatre...and with it goes the Music Career).

Still used carefully this tool can make up for a LOT of the customization that was lost by not being able to build your own town.

But you will see that (and more) for yourself when you...
