Okay so maybe it will be the first GAME Review (Review of The Sims 2 Store)
July 13th 2008 22:45
Okay first off, a quick blog recomendation, I hate to say that there are other great blogs out there (you may go read them and then I'd be lonely
). But I got to give a shout out to the writer of The Married Gamer. In between revies of the LATEST games (unlike around here where if we get to a review it will most likely be older games) he talks about the trial and tribulations of being a gamer with a wife and kids, check out his posts called "Games it took me over a year to finish" where he talks about (as the post is titled) games that, due to his married life, have taken him over one year to get to the ending to. You won't be disapointed.
Okay, on to the review.
Gameplay: The Sims 2 Store has no real gameplay to speak of, based on what I have seen you send Maxis money via a credit card and in exchange, they give you what they call SimPoints, which can then be spent to get items from the store. Doing this requires you to register, and as a reward for doing so (as the picture says) they give you 6 Free Items.
Sadly 90% of the items in the store are currently from either Expansion or Stuff Packs, even though there are some items which are exclusive to the store these are far outnumbered by the items which you could get for paying for an Expansion or Stuff Pack (The Store even goes so far as to tell you what pack the item is in). This may not be a bad thing if you want to get the stuff Ala Carte, but the true Sims fan will probably be buying the packs anyway, which make it a moot point.
Graphics: As This is for The Sims 2, The graphics are the same as The Sims 2, which are pretty good for the system requirements needed to run it. Of course the graphic quality will vary depending on what settings you have The Sims 2 set for.
Final Thoughts: Maxis has, what COULD be a good idea here, Sim fans who want some of the items from the packs without buying the packs themselves will find plenty of good things here, but in order for the majority of the fans to really buy in to this Maxis will need to create more exclusive content and not rely so heavily on the packs for content. As this game is in Beta, these issues should be addressed and as such I will check again in about 3 months and give an updated review.
